Recon with a bite!
Though the introduction
and deployment of the Badger MK I became helpful to several units, the
need for variants of the vehicle became quite apparent during the Peros
conflict. Field units discovered that if the Badger Recon vehicle could
infiltrate enemy lines, and they mounted anti-tank missiles, they could
cause an enemy armored unit to halt and deploy short of their objective.
The Department of the Military ordered Thomisan Armored Industries to design
a missile capable Badger recon vehicle. Thomisan Armored Industries contracted
Thor Tactical Missile Systems to design the missile system for the Badger
recon vehicle. Based on the "Barclay" modified Badger configuration,
Thomisan Armored Industries presented the Badger MK III to the Department
of the Military. The DoM immediately approved of the design, and
ordered 30 of them to be delivered to the 409th Cavalry Squadron.
The same unit that first field-tested the Badger MK I's with crushing success.
The 409th Cav was deployed against the Fluran invasion forces on Gurant.
The MK III proved to be a most valuable asset to the Squadron. The
small silhouette of the vehicle, paired with the powerful Thor Missile
System, proved to be a very dangerous combination, much to the detriment
of several Fluran armored battalion commanders.
